Welcome to Benedict Pics where I'm on a quest to find the best Eggs Benedict in Brooklyn. Or Manhattan. Really this is just an excuse to go to brunch and order Eggs Benedict every time. But ratings makes things official!

Market Mushroom Benedict @ Peaches Shrimp & Crab

Market Mushroom Benedict @ Peaches Shrimp & Crab

A couple weeks ago, I posted a review for the eggs benedict at Marietta, which has since changed it's name to Peaches Shrimp & Crab. Their menu also changed a little so we thought we would give it another try with their new menu and see how it compared. It's still a rustic, Southern style restaurant, but now with a bit more of a seafood focus. There are three benedicts to choose from here, including smoked salmon and their new whole lump crab cake. I went with the non-seafood option of the market mushroom benedict since I'm not a big fan of crab or salmon. Though many elements were similar to the previous dish, here's how the updated benedict rated the second time around at the same but different restaurant.

Here is what it looked like under all that green

Base: Brioche. Same base as before and still pretty good. The thickness of the bread provides a solid base for the benedict, but the toast level could have been better. The thickness of the bread though helped keep the structure and allowed for yolk absorption without getting soggy.
Score: 5

Non-Egg Protein: Mushrooms. So not really a protein but it is the equivalent element. The presentation of the benedict has not changed versus Marietta, so the mushrooms sat between the pieces of bread instead of on them. It's not a huge deal, but I sometimes couldn't include them in my benedict bites because it was hard to get them on the same fork full of egg/brioche. But they tasted fine and were actually a nice change from the usual benedict ham.
Score: 4

Eggs: Oh boy. Here we go. This is the first time on BenedictPics that I'm giving the eggs a perfect score. There was nothing wrong with these eggs, not even a little layer of overcook around the edges of the yolk that's so common. In fact, it was that level of cook where the white kind of fell off to expose the yolk, and then I got to puncture it myself. It was awesome. Everything I've ever wanted in eggs benedict eggs.

GIFs are fun!

Yeah, this egg just got murdered and is bleeding yolk everywhere

Sauce: Hollandaise. It was good by itself. Though you may wonder where it was hiding since it isn't on top of the eggs. Like the previous benedict at Marietta, the style is to put the hollandaise into a hole in the bread so it's beneath the eggs, which presents problems. The hollandaise is located in a very small portion of the bread so it's hard to distribute to the entire stack while eating. I'm sure I would have missed it if it wasn't there, but it was easy to forget that it was.
Score: 3

Sides: Kale with pecorino. Turns out, I'm not a huge fan of kale. There were some other greens in there and it actually wasn't too bad with the egg yolk and mushrooms. I would say there was too too much pecorino, but maybe you'll like it if you're into that. I personally didn't love this side but I'm not deducting points because of that, it just wasn't anything special. And it was served on top of the eggs. That, I do really hate.
Score: 3

Bonus: None.
